Dr. Ruben Kalra M.D. was born and raised in California. He studied Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, followed by a joint M.D.,M.B.A program at the University of Southern California, that he developed. The program included time at London Business School, followed by an internship at Columbia’s St-Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital in New York City, then a residency program in Anesthesiology & Critical Care and fellowship in Pain Management at Harvard’s Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston.
During his education, Dr. Kalra spent time doing pharmaceutical equity research at Credit Suisse First Boston, led clinical trials at the University of California, San Francisco, and advised the head of the Joint Commission (JCAHO). He then came out to California to help develop a pain practice that has now expanded to five offices in San Francisco, Marin, and the East Bay with over 25,000 patient visits per year. He also serves as the President of Pain Medicine Consultants. He is a Grand Rounds expert in Pain Management and served as Chairman of the Pain Management team at the John Muir Hospitals from 2010 to 2015.
He co-founded and serves as CEO of a mission-driven and doctor founded company called WellBrain, the world’s leading personalized digital chronic pain management platform, which is focused on giving physicians other options besides opiates in helping treat chronic pain and hopefully saving lives at the same time. Dr. Kalra speaks Spanish and conversational Mandarin Chinese, Italian, Hindi, Bulgarian, and Haitian Creole. He enjoys surfing around the globe, barbecuing, yoga, and gardening.
